英译古诗《归园田居》（其三）（陶渊明）

Embraced Back In The Countryside ( No.3 )  归园田居（其三）

    I raise soy at the foot of the southern mountain           种豆南山下，

    The weeds grow thick while thin the soy seedling           草盛豆苗稀。

    I am always rising to weed early in the morning            晨兴理荒秽，

    And in the moonlight hoe over shoulder returning           带月荷锄归。

    So narrow is the path with grass on either side            道狭草木长，

   That evening dewdrops moisten my robe many a time           夕露沾我衣。

    But let it be as long as the ideals in my mind             衣沾不足惜，

    Are nevermore gone against through all my life             但使愿无违。

标题《归园田居》直译本应为 Living Back In The Countryside，但总感觉这里如此表达显得刻板，

枯燥，苍白，缺乏诗化语言的灵动，意境和美感，限制了读者的想象空间，所以结合标题和作者的经

历，雅译为 Embraced Back In The Countryside （直译：重回田园怀抱）

第四行和第五行两句正常语序分别为 And returning hoe over shoulder in the moonlight

和 The path with grass on either side is so narrow, 译文为押尾韵分别倒装。

本诗中的“南山”实指庐山，因位于陶居南面，故称“南山”，非专有名词，所以译为英语不大写

many a time = many times, 为押尾韵使用前者
